Is it time to move away from home? Or just a general desire to move where the grass is greener? We all get this desire from time to time, but only some us actually take the final step and actually move. It is probably easier than you think. You do not need most of the junk that is filling your house or apartment. Most people just need a bunch of clothes and their tools of the trade to move. For most this means their laptop. So what are you waiting for? Here are some tips to get you started.

1. Make a decision and follow it through. It’s easy to move back if you for some reason need to. It will be harder to forgive yourself if you one day wake up and realize that you have wasted a good portion of your life in a place you hate.

2. Set a reasonable date and aim for it. Don’t wait for your next birthday, don’t wait for summer, don’t wait for the next Transformers movie. These are just bad excuses you keep coming up with, so ignore them.

3. Make a quick outline on what you need to achieve your goal. Find out how much money you need and how you would get that money. How will you get there? Which things are essential to bring. What will you do with the rest of your junk? Store, sell or give away?

4. Make it happen now. Tell your boss that you are quitting next month. Start giving away your stuff. Get an apartment at your new destination. It doesn’t matter how, but you need to get the ball rolling.

5. Use your network of friends. And friend of friends too for that matter. People are usually surprisingly helpful. And since you probably know one of those guys that always brags about his good friend that lives on Manhattan Island, maybe he could help out or shut up? See what people can do for you, but do not expect if for nothing. Offer to help out, clean and cook if yo crash at someones place. Try to not bee too much of a leech.
