Derby is found in the East Midlands section of England. This town is found on the banks of the Derwent River. It is over 2,000 years old and originated from a Roman camp in the area. There are several old Roman forts discovered in the area. There is also evidence that the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings occupied this area.

Derby was the center of the industrial revolution in England and it was the site of the first water powered mill. This mill was used for silk throwing. The Derby Rib Attachment was a revolutionary machine that made creating stockings fast and easy to produce. This machine was used in all of the main hosiers in Derby,

The main mill that set off the Industrial revolution was the cotton spinning mill, powered by water. This area developed in to the spot for engineering developments in manufacturing and they also exported many tools throughout Russia. Midland Railways eventually merged with the North Midland Railway and set up their headquarters in Derby. The railway also made trade very easy for the cloth manufacturers.

There are some lovely parks found in the town and several such as Darley Park are connected with other parks using a river walk and several bicycle paths. Derwent and Darley Park are located to the north of the city center and contain many different wildlife to view.

There are also several bicycle paths that link the parks. There are plenty of wildlife and plants to view. There is also a beautiful arboretum which was inspired by central Park in New York City.

The cathedral of All Saints is known as Derby cathedral and is actually one of the smallest of all Anglican churches found throughout England. The original church was constructed in 943 but that no longer exists and the present church was built in the 14th century. The ring of bells in Derby cathedral is quite famous as they are the oldest found in the country. Many people also visit the cathedral to view the nests of peregrine falcons found in the tower.

Pickford’s House Museum is a Georgian town house that was built by John Pickford, a prominent architect. The ground floor was kept as it would be during Pickford’s residence while the other rooms show 18th and 19th century costumes. Pickford House was originally built to display his work and gain new contracts.
